MILK FED PORK
All of our pork comes from our own Berkshire pigs. Berkshire pigs were chosen to raise for their hardiness, as well as their quality of meat. Berkshire pork is believed to be the colby beef of pork. Berkshire pigs are the only breed of pig that has marbled meat, making it contain a deeper flavor while also being more tender and juicy. Being a heritage breed, Berkshire pigs tend to be more disease resistant and easier keepers then more modern breeds. we feed our pigs only quality grain and milk because we believe that the quality of feed is reflected in the quality of the meat.
Our pigs are housed in sheds with the ability to go in and out as they choose- unlike many commercial operations that house pigs inside in tiny pens on hard floors, our pigs are allowed to run, root and lay in the sun as they please. Our pork is unique in more than just the way we house our pigs, its unique in the way that we finish feeding the pigs before they are processed. Unlike many operations, instead of pushing the corn to them to put on weight, we feed them a mixture of corn with alfalfa pellets which makes the meat leaner without losing the flavor or marbling. We encourage you to try some of our pork that is humanely raised and naturally smoked!
